31 Jan PROJECT: TWE Eat Drink Award Trophies
Our pals at The Weekend Edition are passionate urban explorers of Brisbane’s food and beverage culture. The team hold an annual TWE Eat Drink Award competition where their devoted readership votes for their favourite restaurants and watering holes across Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Following the announcement of the well-deserved winners, we were asked to create a physical trophy that was both understated yet aesthetically pleasing.
Designed by Map Creative, the TWE Eat Drink Award trophies were created from Tasmanian Oak that was stained black with a gold acrylic front plate laser etched with the winner’s details, sitting on top of a 10mm black acrylic base plate. The result? A beautiful plaque that restaurateurs are proud to display at their business.
Processes used:
ColourChiefs took the initial design concept and created a full CAD render before production commenced.
After docking the Tasmanian Oak timber lengths to size, they were hand-stained to match the concept.
Two coats of Porters Paints aqua enamel – just enough to let the grain come through, followed by three coats of matt clear varnish for a silky smooth, non-reflective finish.
The timber was then flatbed printed with white UV ink, both sides.
The laser etched gold plaque was constructed from three layers of acrylic, before being adhered to the timber backing.
Final assembly was inserting the timber and plaque into a CNC milled, 10mm thick black acrylic base.
